new home

Well, new to us anyway. We're moving in TOMORROW! Ten months since purchase, nine months since the Easter soiree, six months from the first Menlo Park permits, and a long time since we've seen our "stuff" that we first put in storage when we sold our Park City home in early 2005.

And no, it isn't finished, but we are "going in anyway". One bedroom with a small bath, the guest bath, the living room, Jenny's office, and the KITCHEN are done. That's enough!

The dogs are looking forward to having a small yard. We're looking forward to having a drawer for the silverware and another for napkins.
If we could figure out how to post pix, we'd show you the place. Since we haven't mastered that little trick, call and we'll invite you over!

Love, Charlie

I love how you reduced your needs to basics. We went through the same here. As soon as we had a bathroom and a bedroom and a place to put the coffee cups, we were in! And I love the fact that, as we get older, it all seems much simpler. Except for Dick Cheney and friends. I am enjoying Obama. Everyone in Canada enjoys Obama. Take care, Tarri

Basics are... well, basic. The dogs have gotten comfortable, the cows have had their yearly calves, the roses are blooming, and we're enjoying the laughter / yelling / babble of youngsters in the neighborhood. And just in awe of the courage and fortitude that Obama is displaying weekly.

When Gingrich backs Obama and not Cheney, as happened this week, it indeed is a bit newsworthy

It has been awhile since I felt pride in the President but I have to agree: Obama is a man one can feel proud of and confident in his leadership. The recent issue of Time and interview with Michele Obama confirmed some of what I believed about the job ... like a really great project manager, it's 24/7 until the task is complete and the time is up.

As an aside, Mike Holmes (Holmes on Homes-HGTV)has been working in New Orleans' lower ninth. I think, as a country, we have failed there without comment or excuse. A recent episode showed the fine notifications being posted by the city on homes where trash and debris have not been cleared. If these fines are not cleared in "X" days, the property will be forfited. He was angry, unable to understand how the US Govt could take even more than these people when who knows where the people settled or how they're surviving. As a Canadian, Mike struggles with US processes with respect to its citizens ... when it comes to New Orleans, I think should all be struggling.

Obama has a big job and he makes me wonder how much we can do if we think community instead of individually. I am not a socialist but I am no longer a die-hard capitalist. Maybe I live in Gene Rodenbury's universe ... dead or alive ... maybe we just need to do the thing we love and worry less about the payouts.
